Overview
Updated 1 November 2026
WordPress is the rare case where the platform underneath often matters more than the code itself. A default install is mostly PHP files, but performance, security, and cost are decided by which PHP version runs it, whether opcache is on, how fast the database answers, and who renews the TLS certificate. DockHosting treats WordPress as the PHP app it is: tuned PHP-FPM with opcache, a managed MySQL or MariaDB database on the private network, automatic HTTPS, and free .dockhosting.cloud subdomains on every plan.
Managed WordPress providers bundle hosting, but you pay a premium for that bundling - entry tiers usually start near ten dollars and climb into the tens of dollars as visits grow. DockHosting does not meter visitors or bandwidth. You pay a flat plan price or nothing: the Free plan runs a real WordPress site with a database, and it only goes to sleep after the traffic stops for a while, waking in a couple of seconds on the next request.
Sites deploy from Git the same way as any other project, so your content workflow, staging branch, or CI preview all behave normally instead of being trapped behind a proprietary import/export flow. wp-config.php reads the database credentials we inject, custom domains verify with a DNS record while we issue the certificate, and daily database backups on paid plans mean a bad plugin update is a few clicks from undone.
Compare
Most WordPress hosting is cPanel behind a nice site: teaser pricing that renews higher, 'unlimited' that throttles, and MySQL you do not control. DockHosting runs WordPress on a tuned PHP-FPM runtime with git deploys and a managed MySQL/MariaDB next to it on the private network.
| Feature | DockHosting | shared cPanel WordPress hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Deploy | Push to Git or attach a repository | cPanel File Manager / FTP uploads |
| Resource limits | Explicit memory per plan (up to 4 GB per app), always-on on paid plans | 'Unlimited' plans that throttle under load |
| Database | Managed MySQL/MariaDB, daily backups on paid plans | Shared MySQL you can't administer |
| HTTPS | Automatic on your subdomain and custom domains | Auto-SSL in cPanel, warnings when renewal breaks |
| Staging | Deploy a second project per environment | Paid staging add-on or a manual copy |
| Renewals | Flat $0 / $4 / $9 / $19, no teaser pricing | First-year discount that renews at 2-3x list |
The bottom lineFor a real WordPress site - not a marketing page - you get owned environments, a managed database and honest flat pricing instead of 'unlimited' plans and renewal cliffs.
Everything you need to know before you deploy your first WordPress app.
Yes - WordPress runs like any PHP app. Pair it with a managed MySQL database.
